Biography Pelaw Boot Boys / 2013
I'm in the process of uploading all of my music songwriting work, so this is just a quick jotting down site until some future date when this website will be finished off properly, and when it is it will be a site archive of the music project i created in 2013 called the Pelaw Boot Boys. In 2010 i began work on a set of paintings and the theme of much of this art was memories from my childhood past growing up in 1980s North East England, in some of the art pieces different characters would pop up including the skinhead gang the "pelaw boot boys" who were a real gang of skinhead kids from my area. I thought at the time that it would be interesting if the pelaw boot boys would be a real punk band.. and a couple of years later i saw the british movie "This Is England".. i was impressed about how accurate that film was but thought that it should of had a classic music soundtrack too and i began to wonder if i could write one. So this was the inspiration to write what turned out to be four albums of music in a punk style.. but using "far right" lyrics in some cases. Not all skinheads were far right.. the history of skinhead culture goes back to the late 1960s when reggae music was a large part of its development, but in my pelaw boot boys it would tend towards the far right. I believe this project to be possibly my best work for its energy riffs and lyrics and the songs really did'nt need to come out as good as they did and one or two of them are top drawer as far as i'm concerned (and i'm my own biggest critic). The Pelaw Boot Boys is a historical musicial document my own politics are not this at all but maybe at the time of creating the PBB i would admit to getting close to the character if you like, but their is good and bad in all things, political, religeous etc etc, but i would never tell anybody what to think or believe, as we are all on our own journey.. but obviously cruelty to other people is very uncool whichever side it comes from. I've met many skinheads in my life, and most are just normal people into that fashion.. i grew up in a time when their were lots of teenage tribes following their own music and fashions and that it was normal to get a kicking or give one out every now and again, and that's not even mentioning football.. those were the days. |

The Pelaw Boot Boys was four Albums in total, the first was me finding the groove and its probably the least complex album "entitled debut" it was completed in 2013. The next three albums came straight out of the box totaling four albums of songs 40 songs in that one year. Also in 2013 i was continuing to write my "redhead with Horns" metal/rock project.
PBB album two was called "abbey road" simply named because the cover has a zebra crossing on it.. that is the one outside bill quay park where we used to play as kids until nine oclock at night, this album is very much my childhood memories with songs like "bod the mod and chinkies". Album three is full on "nazi punk" where i'm basically pushing the project to its extreme's and it spurned a few really great songs "neo nazi, rottweil skinhead and fight for the white".. i say great because when the riffs kick in on these songs you know straight away they are going to be good. I dont take much credit for this as a songwriter because like many other songwriters sometimes the songs come from nowhere like being zapped from the heavens"... or maybe its the devil doing the zapping (who seems to have all of the best tunes). Album four is a bit more mellow "halal meat is murder" a take on the smiths album title.. it's sort of rounding off the pelaw boot boys music, as i knew by then that the project had come to its natural end. |
